How to find clients for your freelance business?

So, we have seen how an essential step is to have a good portfolio, which can be made up of some work done, or by putting together a portfolio of ‘fictitious’ work, i.e. work that has not really been commissioned by a client, but which is the result of work done on an invented brief, or from which we have taken inspiration.

Once a portfolio has been put together, the next step is to find clients. There are several ways to find new clients for your freelance business. Here are some examples that are widely used by professionals:

  • You can contact companies or individuals directly and ask about work (this is known as ‘outbound’).
  • You can create a profile on a freelance platform such as Upwork or Fiverr (this is known as ‘inbound’).
  • You can participate in networking events or join professional organizations related to your industry (this is known as ‘networking’).

Regardless of the method you choose, always make sure you do your best when approaching potential customers. Remember that your goal is to obtain long-term projects with satisfied customers, not one-off jobs with people who will never use your services again.
